Little Nat's bdae

Was requested to help take pics for little nat's bdae. Her mother borrowed an SLR from her friend for me to use! My first time using the SLR!! I tried quite a few shot to realise I am fumbling with it. The shots did not turn out pretty. I end up asking the SLR owner to help take pics of the birthday instead. Dun wan to ruin little nat's bdae with my awful shots! Useless me! Used my own camera to snap random shops ard instead.

Enjoy the pics of her fairy themed birthday! Her mama even hired a body art painter! Lucky kids! I wanna be a kid again!!! *pouts*

Shot with SLR:

her fairy-heartshaped- train- grapes- strawberry cake. I always imagine it as a messy disastrous cake everytime little nat describes to me what her dream cake is. I am glad the baker is much more imaginative and creative than i am! haha! Little cupcakes were made by her friend's mum!

Hmm... wanted to show more pics of the little kids and their beautiful body art but i reckon better nt. Wait the kid's parents come and sue me for putting their kids pics online!
Sorry!

Korean Restaurent - Togi

Finally, manage to try out some place new since i started on my new job. My colleague brought me to this korean restaurent called 'Togi' at Mosque Street. This colleague of mine studied Korean Language in Korea for a year plus. So the place she brought me confirm sure will be authentic korean.

DSC00013

Of course, we left the food recommendation and ordering to her. Its so interesting to see her conversing with the lady boss in korean! hehe! Dun worry! You dun have to noe how to speak korean to order. Lady boss noes english and their workers seem to mostly be from China. No language barrier there for me. heez!

DSC00016
After ordering, we were each served some clear soup and barley tea. My colleague sae the soup taste like the one she had when she was studying back in korea.

DSC00015
N of course, we were served with all the little side dishes!! the cabbage kimchi not so nice though we feel. abit sour. the rest are good!

DSC00017
This was absolutely good!!! only 10 bucks only!! its call "ttok ppok ki" in korean! its like korean 'nian gao' (rice cakes) fry with "ramen" (instant noodles to me... haha)!! Love it!! very nice!! Very filling!

DSC00019
N this!! I've heard abt this and been wanting to try it out for a long time! Its korean's cold noodles! Can you see the ice cubes in the soup?! I have seen this on 'Dynamic Korea'!
Interesting right? Have u eaten anything that is icy cold?!
I heard some colleague ate this previously and stomach cannot take it so end up having diahorrea. Oppz!
See the 3 white slices on the side? its pear! nice sweet pear! haha!

DSC00020
The noodles - closed-up view! We were sharing! heez! The soup was salty and light. You gotta add some mustard into in and it taste really nice! I dun like the beef much but the noodles were very very chewy!! ("Q")! But becareful, dun slurp in too fast! abit slippery! wait get choke! haha!
My colleague mentioned the cold noodles here not very fantastic. She had better.

DSC00018
My other colleague's bibimbap! I din eat so I cannot comment! But only 10 bucks too!! Worth it leh! Considering all the side dishes we had. Refillable somemore. Better than eating at food court where the beef is measley and so is the kimchi!!

And I end this post with a lovely pic i took of a small flower which some1 picked on the roadside for me.. Zzzz... HAHA!

The daily scoop.

My bf brought me and his sis to an really ulu place to eat ice cream. His boss recommended the place to him.

Ok maybe it isnt that ulu but if u never bother to drive through right inside sunset way, you never know that was a shopping arcade there, and that it has a really famous ice cream shop in there.

IMG_9060

This ice cream shop is apparently already very well-known. His sis had actually read abt it from blogs and heard raves about it from her friends. I guess I am just abit "sua Ku". But it is really quite surprising to find such a busy shop in a very quiet street.

They serve home-made ice cream at very very reasonable price. They also have tons of unique flavours of ice cream, each tagged with a really cool name. You can check out the website for more information (*scroll to the bottom of the post)

IMG_9056
My bf ordered the lychee martini! I ADORE it! its has a light lychee taste and not so sweet!! Yummz!! $2.90 for single scoop!

IMG_9057
His niece ordered the sunny strawberry! Its interesting that they have a junior serving! and this only cost us $2!! Awesome!!! The ice cream was good but of course, we still love Haagen Daaz strawberry ice cream more! But for this price, its a perfect substitute!!

IMG_9058

His sis ordered the cherry brandy one. She took the junior serving too cause she wanted to try. Lucky! coz we did not like this so much.

IMG_9070
N i ordered the butterscotch pecan! with the waffles! Frankly speaking, nothing beats gelare's waffles!! I had the craving for Gelare's waffles while eating this one. Anyone wanna chiong with me to Gelare on a tuesday?! haha! I am not saying the waffles is bad. It was not bad! it was quite "song" (light?). I just prefer Gelare's. The ice cream we love though! yumz! haha!

IMG_9068
we decided to try 1 last serving of ice cream before we left! Durian durian!!! Soo rich!! Soooo Creammy! Sooo Goood!!! Last way to end our ice cream outing.

Christmas 2007 (with friends)

I think starhub heard my ranting and gave me my internet connection back! I can finally upload my pics! Mel.. you can stop bugging me for the pics now. Ha!

We had our annual christmas party early again this year! but its not exactly too early since christmas day is almst here!! As i missed last year's party, i am really looking forward to this year's one. My fwens were looking forward for it too! because of the sheperd's pie... Not me! GEez! Yes. Was assigned to make sheperd's pie again this year.

IMG_9078
Cute right?! I wrapped the winnie the pooh on top of my secret santa's gift!! I bought the pooh since my gift did not reach the budget yet and thot it be like a decoration piece for the pressie! I did the same thing for cyn's 21st bdae pressie! A minnie mouse holding the voucher we got her. I came up with the idea cause i thot a voucher doesnt look grand enuff for a 21st bdae gift! haha! I think i gonna wrap all my pressies with softtoys in future now!!

IMG_9076
Like my name cards? Hehe! Th jie did it for me! She is gonna do it for her dotter's coming bdae. I told her to print extras for me and we did all the name cards together! Will take pic n show how cute the cards gonna look at her dotter's bdae party! I wanted to use the name cards for my fwens to place on their pressies. Then i realise i forgot to do my own name! stopid!

Christmas 2007 003
haha! Our food looks almst the same every year! hehe! Looks little for us greedy gals! The "turkey gal" was late so the turkey was still roasting in the oven. Haha! Then 2 others were also late! so we started ahead without them.

IMG_9079
My fwen's sausages. She took the earlier pic. I like to do close up pics! Haha! See the parsley! she purposely buy so that she can take pwetti photos of her food. She is all abt the presentation.

IMG_9081
Mel's carbonara. This was suppose to be for 8 person's portion. Think can feed 16. haha!

IMG_9082
My sherperd's pie! Actually my bf's, my mum's plus me sheperd's pie! Haha! Mum showed us why our sheperd's pie always lost to her. We never cook the beef as long as her and put enuff corn starch. Thank goodness both of us got another party coming up which we can practise making it again! Haha! Sheperd pie overload!

IMG_9096
1 of our late arrival dish! Roasted baby potatoes with olive oil, garlic and herbs! Due to oven space constrain, the potatoes will have tasted even better if it was made crispier cause the skin can get a little chewy.

IMG_9097
The other late arrival dish! Salad!! Some of us were surprised to find turnip inside the salad. yx made a funny comment: " eh... you got "hei gou" (prawn paste)... i see "bang guang"(turnip)... i need "hei gou" ".... haha! (she was referring to rojak when the turnip is mixed with the sweet prawn paste).

IMG_9099
N finally... the main lead! the turkey is done! it took 2 hours odd because we keep opening and closing the oven to heat food up. Hehe!! Not bad leh the cold storage chilled turkey. I like the sauce! test like wat my mum usually make.

Besides eating, 1 of the guys bought Wii to my place. And so most of us were engrossed playing and looking at pple play. Then there was the secret santa present giving. We took so many pics the guys complain that its like prize ceremony. Haha!

After that, it was dessert time! the dessert highlight of the day was Kon's Vodka watermelon.
What exactly is vodka watermelon? I never knew until Kon mentioned it some time back. Apparently, u make some holes into the watermelon and pour vodka into it. Then let it rest for a few hours and pour more vodka in. Do it until the whole melon is filled with vodka. Interesting right?!! I am so glad he did make and bring it to the christmas party!!

Christmas 2007 037
Opening ceremony of our vodka filled watermelon!!

Christmas 2007 038
balling the watermelon! This pic was quite funny! Great pic taken by yx! mine all turned out blur!

IMG_9117
Dessert is served! I took the first ball which came from the centre of the melon. I nearly died! a ball of pure vodka! Bleahz!! then another fwen keep saying she din taste any of the vodka. In the end we realise because she keep eating those that came from the side of the melon. I told her to look out for those really mashy looking ("nua") melon balls. She did and her reaction was exactly like mine! Haha!!

But its really good when we came to the bottom of the melon. the mix of the vodka and melon was nice.

Christmas 2007 050
We ended the night with our early bird present from cold storage: Mango Logcake. I heard last yrs's chocolate logcake was much nicer.

Christmas 2007 046
Merry Christmas my dear friends!!

Morton's @ Oriental

The long wait is finally over! I finally tried out Morton's!! My Sweets' birthday was the perfect excuse for me to splurge on a meal @ Morton's.

I made a reservations early through an online restaurent reservation system called 'OpenTable' (www.opentable.com) which i found while searching for the restaurent's number. It allows you to book restaurents from all around the world! However, the list of participating restaurents in singapore is really little! It's a pretty cool system. It is able to provide the available timings and also allows you to add in special requests. N its pretty reliable since the restaurent did get my reservations in the end. Ha!

The place was pretty crowded for a Monday night. The staff were really courteous and made us feel rather comfortable, and not feel that we were out of place.

We were guided to our table by the maître d' *(definition from Wikipedia below) and was asked to wait for the waiter to introduce to us the menu. During the wait, we were served with a huge onion bread and butter. Nice! But I did not wanna spoil my appetite by eating too much.

Maybe I am really "suaku" but I loved the way they introduce the menu. They actually have a trolley table where they place plates of steaks, salmon, live lobster and fresh vegetables for them to push around to introduce the menu. They will show you the actual different cuts of raw beef available. My sweets was extremely amused to find the lobster was really alive when our waitress, Tina, held it up to introduce it to us. After the introduction, we were then given the menu to decide on our orders.

We originally wanted to order one steak each, even if the price was rather steep. Tina recommended us to get the Prime Rib. So we nearly ordered a Prime Rib and a Fillet Mignion. She told us the Prime Rib was really huge and that we can share. All we have to do is jus order like 2 more sides and it be sufficient for 2. So we followed her recommendation.

IMG_9013
The complimentary onion bread.

IMG_9021
Lobster Bisque. It costs $27 bucks so we ordered one. They were sweet enuff to spilt it into 2 seperate portions so that we each get one! Love their service! Love the bisque too! but i really dun have a thing for lobster coz i din fancy the lobster meat much. haha!

IMG_9029
Wide mushrooms. Both of us adore the mushrooms! Though i felt abit sick from eating it when the mushroom got cold.

IMG_9027
Potatoes fried with onions and bacon. I forgot the actual! Lionaisse or something. Sweets did not like this. I tink it was ok but pretty pricey for a simple dish.

IMG_9033
Our Prime Rib! It arrived really rare! Both of us dun really like rare bloody beef so we sent it back for it to be Medium well. Think some beef lovers might be thinking that we are crazy. But we really cant eat it when its so bloody! Both of us love the beef. Really tender and juicy. Mine was still a little bloody though. N even after splitting it into 2, i still could not finish it. Partly because I wasnt feeling well that night. But i was really glad that we took Tina's advise and split the steak.

Then its time for dessert!! They also have a big plate where they display the different available dessert of the day so they can introduce to their guest. Really smart idea i feel for we will noe what we are getting. But the poor waiters and waitresses seem to be reciting a script over and over again. Ha!

IMG_9037
We had the souffle for two! Sweets was too full to finish it. I helped him finish it. It was pretty good.

All in all, I feel that its a good to try out Morton's at least once, for the experience. I think the steak itself is pretty worth the value for marnee because its a huge portion. Also, its really good quality. Its the side dishes and others are pricey that chokes up the bill. Good to go back there again for the steak and also the great service!

*maître d':
The maître d' (short for maître d'hôtel, literally "master of the hall") in a suitably staffed restaurant is the person in charge of assigning customers to tables in the establishment, and dividing the dining area into areas of responsibility for the various servers on duty. He or she may also be the person who receives and records advance reservations for dining, as well as dealing with any customer complaints and making sure all servers are completing their tasks in an efficient manner. In some localities or traditions the post is also known as the headwaiter or captain.

Christmas came early!

Christmas came early for me this year! I got an expensive christmas pressie! I wanna show it off!!

What did i get?? A Mobile Phone!! An extremely gorgeous one! W960i!! Weee!!!

My old one's ringtone has died like ages ago. Have been surviving on vibration mode for the longest time. Thanks to my sweets for getting a new one for me. Its like the most exp mobile phone i ever gotten. I am a cheap skate! ha!

But the phone a bit high tech for me. Majorly underutilised currently. haha!

Come come.... see my pwetti pwetti phone!

Bugis Junction basement.

Bugis Junction seems to have underwent a major revamp to cater loads of glorious food for its patrons. I was overwhelmed to find so many eateries at the basement area! They even have my favourite soup spoon there! Now i do not have to make a special trip down to city hall whenever I have a craving for soup spoon!

Most of the eateries can be commonly found in other shopping centres. Only 2 eateries interest me the most; the one selling mochis and the one selling freshly cut fries. I did manage to try out both of them.

IMG_8996

IMG_8995
Pretty pretty mochis. Each of them cost $2. (kinda expensive). I bought a box of 6 which cost $12 but they threw it a free vanilla flavoured one. Think opening promotion?

I love the chewy 'Q' mochi skin. The ice cream inside was smooth and yummy. I only manage to try out the green tea and lychee flavours. The rest I gave them away. I adore the lychee one! Yumz! but I feel i can easily satisfied my craving for mochi with the King's one which you can buy from supermart. Not great difference. Except the $2 is much bigger. Haha!

IMG_9001

IMG_8999
The freshly cut fries. I packed the fries home. I was alone and I dun really like to eat out alone. So i packed these back home. Of course, the fries are kinda soft after that. This eatery basically sells fries with different kind of dips each tagged with a nice name for it. I naturally took the cheese fries. It came with sour cream, bacon bits and of course cheese. I love cheese fries. So i kinda enjoyed the fries.

I am not sure however for the profitability of the business because it is a very simple business idea of fries and dips. I just feel its not unique enuff to keep customers coming back for it. However, the reasonable pricing makes it a good choice whenever u have a fries craving. For example, I believe my cheese fries cost about 3 bucks. If you compare it to KFC's cheese fries, its jus a few cents more and it has bacon bits!! so the price is quite competitive.

Also, they had a pretty young gal serving me that day. Very sweet smile!! She is the kind of gal you wanna bring home to show your parents! Sweet! Likeable! Pretty! Ha! I sound like a pervert! oppz!

The taiwanese xiao chi was also not bad. I had the chicken bites.

Loads more choices there now! Think I will drop by there more often now to pack food home.

BACK!

yeah! I am finally back! Wasnt really gone. Too poor to pay my bill so internet connection got cut off so unable to update my blog. Even now, I am using my office connection to post this entry. Anyone wanna pay my bills for me? hehe! Kiddings! But my internet connection is really down. Pissed off. But yet, too busy to go call n bug starhub to fix it for me.

I have so many things that I wanna post! But most my photos are not uploaded yet. I will try to see if I can post some entries today. Having UAT (User Acceptance Testing)! so I am like kinda free but not very free (waiting for users to report defects but praying there isnt any).

The holiday season is approaching!! really soon! have you bought your presents yet?? gonna have loads of parties?? I just had an early christmas party with my fwens last weekend. Will post abt it once i get the photos up!

Shall end the post with a pic of my huge oatmeal raisin cookie. Had a craving of cookies after eating loads of subway cookies. It has been an extremely long time since i last baked. I did alot of mistakes (long story). Thank goodness the cookie still turn out fine in the end. I made them huge like those of subways. Love the size! Feel like i was making them for cookie monster!

Gave them to some of my colleagues. They kinda like it except they felt it was a bit sweet. My mum's colleagues love them though.
